Attesting Malaysian Documents for Oman

Short answer: Oman joined the Apostille Convention in 2011, but Malaysia is not a party, so a Malaysian document cannot carry an apostille. It is attested through the embassy chain instead: Wisma Putra (Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Kuala Lumpur, then Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whose attestation is now handled by Oman Post at its branches or online. The Ministry charges OMR 10 for a study certificate, marriage contract, death certificate or certificate of non-conviction, and OMR 30 for commercial registration and other company certificates.

We handle the Malaysian side: endorsements, notarisation, Wisma Putra and the Oman Embassy, plus English and Arabic translations of Malay documents. Send your document on WhatsApp for a quote.

Step by step

  1. Get the Malaysian endorsement first. Private documents such as powers of attorney, affidavits and company resolutions are signed before a notary public. Degrees and transcripts follow the endorsement steps in our degree attestation guide.

  2. Attest it at Wisma Putra. Wisma Putra confirms the Malaysian signature or seal. Its fee is RM 20 for civil-status, notarised and Certificate of Good Conduct documents, and RM 10 for translations, certified true copies and school certificates.

  3. Attest it at the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Kuala Lumpur. The embassy lists "certificate and document endorsement services" but does not publish its requirements or fees online. Confirm them by email at kualalumpur@fm.gov.om, or let us arrange it.

  4. Attest it at Oman's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry says "All services are now provided via Oman Post, either electronically or through its selected branches." This step is done in Oman, by you, your employer or your agent.

  5. Translate it if the Omani office needs Arabic. See Arabic translation for Oman.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs fees in Oman

  • OMR 20: divorce certificate.

  • OMR 30: commercial registration, chamber of commerce membership and other company certificates, and certificates not listed elsewhere.

Malaysian documents that often need attesting for Oman

  • Degrees and transcripts, for employment and professional registration.

  • The Certificate of Good Conduct, which Oman's fee list calls a certificate of non-conviction.

  • Birth and marriage certificates from JPN, for family joining a worker in Oman.

  • Company documents, powers of attorney and certificates of origin, for business and trade.

What delays documents

  • Going to the Oman Embassy before Wisma Putra. The embassy attests Wisma Putra's stamp, so Wisma Putra comes first.

  • Stopping at the embassy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs step in Oman, through Oman Post, is still needed.

  • A photocopy without certification by a notary or the issuing office.

  • A Malay document sent without a translation.

  • A name spelled differently on the passport, the certificates and the translation.
