Arabic Translation of Malaysian Documents for Oman

Short answer: Arabic is Oman's official language: Article 3 of the Basic Statute says "The official language of the state is the Arabic language." We found no official Omani rule that a document must be in Arabic before it is attested, so a Malaysian document in English can be attested as it is. A document in Malay needs a certified English or Arabic translation, attested with the original. When an Omani office asks for Arabic, ask whether it accepts a translation made in Malaysia or wants one from a legal translation office licensed in Oman.

What we do: certified Malay-to-English and Malay-to-Arabic translations with a signed translator's declaration, attested with the original at Wisma Putra and the Oman Embassy. Our team is certified by ITBM and DBP and includes High Court interpreters and NAATI-certified translators. Send your document on WhatsApp and tell us which Omani office will receive it.

When you need a translation

  • Documents in Malay (JPN certificates, Malay transcripts, court papers): translate them in Malaysia, so Wisma Putra and the Oman Embassy attest the translation with the original.

  • Documents in English (most degrees, the Certificate of Good Conduct, many company documents): no translation is needed for attestation. Ask the receiving office whether it wants Arabic as well.

  • Courts, ministries and contracts in Oman: expect Arabic. Check who must make the translation before you order it.

Who may translate for Omani offices

Oman licenses legal translation offices through its Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. The licence holder "must be an Omani national, at least 21 years old" with full Arabic proficiency and at least five years of translation experience. Some Omani offices ask for an Arabic translation from such an office; others accept a certified translation made abroad and attested with the original. Ask the receiving office which it accepts.

Translate before or after attestation?

  • Translation made in Malaysia: translate first, then attest the translation together with the original at Wisma Putra and the Oman Embassy.

  • Arabic translation made in Oman: attest the original first, so the attestation stamps are translated too.

How we certify a translation for Oman

  1. Translate the whole document, including stamps, seals and handwritten notes.

  2. Sign a translator's declaration that the translation is true and complete, with the translator's credentials and our company details.

  3. Attest the translation with the original at Wisma Putra and the Oman Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. See attestation for Oman.
