Legalising Malaysian Documents for Mauritius

Short answer: Mauritius uses apostilles, but Malaysia is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so a Malaysian document cannot carry one. It is legalised instead: attested at Wisma Putra (Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs), then endorsed by the Mauritius High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. On documents we have legalised, the High Commission's stamp reads "Seen at the Mauritius High Commission Kuala Lumpur" and is signed for the Head of Mission.

We handle it for you: notarisation, Wisma Putra and the High Commission, plus translations of Malay documents. Send your document on WhatsApp for a quote.

Step by step

  1. Start with the original or a certified copy. Private documents such as powers of attorney, affidavits and company resolutions are signed before a notary public first.

  2. Attest it at Wisma Putra. Wisma Putra confirms the Malaysian signature or seal. Its fee is RM 20 for civil-status, notarised and Certificate of Good Conduct documents, and RM 10 for translations, certified true copies and school certificates.

  3. Take it to the Mauritius High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. The High Commission checks the Wisma Putra stamp and adds its own endorsement. It does not publish its fees or opening hours online, so confirm them before you go, or let us arrange it.

  4. Add a translation if the document is in Malay. Mauritian offices work in English and French; see translation for Mauritius.

What the High Commission's endorsement looks like

The Mauritius High Commission stamps "Seen at the Mauritius High Commission Kuala Lumpur" on Wisma Putra's computer-generated attestation, with the High Commission's round seal, a signature "For Head of Mission" and the date. This example is dated 19 August 2026.

Malaysian documents that often need legalising for Mauritius

  • Birth, marriage and divorce certificates from JPN, for marriage, residence or a spouse's permit.

  • Degrees and transcripts, for jobs, work permits and further study.

  • The Certificate of Good Conduct, for work and residence applications.

  • Company documents and powers of attorney, for business, property and banking.

English or French

Mauritius works in English and French. Its Constitution makes English the official language of the National Assembly, "but any member may address the chair in French". Malaysian documents issued in English, such as most degrees, the Certificate of Good Conduct and many company documents, can usually be used without a translation. Documents in Malay need one.

What delays documents

  • Going to the High Commission before Wisma Putra. The High Commission endorses Wisma Putra's stamp, so Wisma Putra comes first.

  • A photocopy without certification by a notary or the issuing office.

  • A Malay-only document sent without an English or French translation.

  • A name spelled differently on the passport, the certificates and the translation.

Informations en français (Maurice)

Maurice applique la Convention Apostille, mais la Malaisie n'y est pas partie : un document malaisien ne peut donc pas recevoir d'apostille. Il est légalisé en deux étapes : attestation au ministère malaisien des Affaires étrangères (Wisma Putra), puis visa du Haut-Commissariat de Maurice à Kuala Lumpur. Les documents rédigés en malais doivent être traduits en anglais ou en français.

Common questions

Can I get an apostille on a Malaysian document for Mauritius?

No. Malaysia is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so Malaysian offices do not issue apostilles. The Wisma Putra attestation and the Mauritius High Commission endorsement take its place.

Does my English degree need a translation for Mauritius?

Usually not, because Mauritian offices work in English and French. It still needs the Wisma Putra attestation and the High Commission endorsement if the office asks for a legalised copy.

Where is the Mauritius High Commission in Malaysia?

In Kuala Lumpur. Confirm its opening hours and fees before you go, or send us the documents and we take them for you.
