Sworn Portuguese Translation of Malaysian Documents for Brazil
Short answer: in Brazil, "Nenhuma tradução terá fé pública se não for realizada por tradutor e intérprete público" (Law 14.195/2021, article 27). A public translator must be registered with a Junta Comercial in Brazil, and Brazil's Federal Police say the sworn translation "só pode ser feita no Brasil". So the Portuguese translation of a Malaysian document is made in Brazil, after the document has been legalised in Malaysia.
What we do: we get the Malaysian side ready for the Brazilian translator: Wisma Putra attestation, legalisation at the Brazilian Embassy, and certified English translations of documents in Malay. Send your document on WhatsApp.
Last reviewed: October 2026. For legalisation, see legalising Malaysian documents for Brazil.
The rules
Sworn translation only. Brazilian law gives public faith only to translations by a "tradutor e intérprete público", with narrow exceptions such as ships' documents.
Registered in Brazil. A public translator must "ter registro na junta comercial do local de seu domicílio ou de atuação mais frequente" (article 22).
Made in Brazil. For residence and other immigration matters, the Federal Police require the sworn translation to be done in Brazil, even for apostilled documents.
Original attached. The original-language document must accompany its translation (article 27, paragraph 2).
Legalise first, then translate
Have the Malaysian document attested at Wisma Putra and legalised by the Brazilian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur before it goes to Brazil. The sworn translator then translates the document together with its stamps and the embassy's sticker. See legalisation for Brazil.
Documents in English
Most Malaysian degrees, transcripts, the Certificate of Good Conduct and many company documents are in English. Brazilian public translators working from English are easy to find through the Juntas Comerciais' registers.
Documents in Malay
Brazilian public translators who work from Malay are rare. Check the Junta Comercial registers first. If none is available, ask the office that will receive the document whether it accepts a sworn translation made from a certified English translation that was legalised in Malaysia together with the original. We can prepare that English translation and legalise it.
Informações em português (Brasil)
No Brasil, só têm fé pública as traduções feitas por tradutor e intérprete público registrado em junta comercial, e a Polícia Federal informa que essa tradução só pode ser feita no Brasil. Antes da tradução, o documento malaio deve ser legalizado no Ministério das Relações Exteriores da Malásia (Wisma Putra) e na Embaixada do Brasil em Kuala Lumpur. O documento original deve acompanhar a tradução.
Common questions
Can MYLegalTrans make the sworn Portuguese translation?
No. Brazilian law reserves sworn translation to public translators registered in Brazil. We prepare and legalise the Malaysian documents, and translate Malay documents into English.
Should the document be translated before or after legalisation?
After. The Brazilian translator translates the document together with the Wisma Putra stamp and the embassy's sticker.
Is an English Malaysian document accepted without translation in Brazil?
Not for official use. A sworn Portuguese translation is still needed, made in Brazil from the legalised document.
