Legalising Malaysian Documents for Belgium

We provide MOFA-recognised translations for Belgium. We also handle Wisma Putra attestation and legalisation at the Embassy of Belgium in Kuala Lumpur. Send your document on WhatsApp for a quote.

1. Malaysian MoFA Attestation Required

  • Required for: All Malaysian documents (e.g. birth/marriage extracts, Good Conduct Certificates) intended for Belgian authorities [1].

  • Authority: Ministry of Foreign Affairs

    • Address: Wisma Putra, No 1, Jalan Wisma Putra, Presint 2, 62602 Putrajaya

    • Tel: +603 8887 4000

    • Website: www.kln.gov.my [2]

    • More information available here [3].

  • Both the original document and its translation must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2. Certificates: Where to Apply

  • Extracts (Birth, Marriage, Nationality, Death):

  • Good Conduct Certificate:

    • Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Consular Section)

    • Tel: +603 8887 4000

    • Website: www.kln.gov.my

3. Translation: Where to Translate

All non-Belgian driving-license documents must be translated into the target municipality’s language by an MoFA-recognized company, such as MYLegalTrans [5].

4. Belgian Embassy Legalisation

  • Where: Embassy of Belgium in Kuala Lumpur

  • Fees: See the Embassy’s consular-fee schedule for legalization costs [6].

5. Civil-Status Transcription in Belgium

  • Why: Only a Belgian civil-status transcription (birth/marriage) allows you to obtain local copies or extracts.

  • Where: Municipality of your Belgian domicile—or, if non-resident, the municipality of your last Belgian address. Some accept postal applications.

  • Tip: Contact the relevant Belgian town hall for exact requirements.

6. General Notes on Legalisation

  • Official-document legalisation confirms the authenticity of every signature, seal or stamp, often in a specific order.

  • Apostille Convention (Hague, 5 Oct 1961): In signatory countries, a single apostille replaces multi-step legalisation. Malaysia is NOT a signatory country.

  • Further info: Consult Belgian embassies/consulates worldwide or use their website’s search filters [7].
